Dr Katz has made a name for himself amongst those looking for bad breath remedies. Well known for his TheraBreath line of products he has many cures for bad breath and can help almost anyone with theirs. He made a trip to Toronto to challenge people to take the halimeter test.

Dr. Harold Katz comes into Toronto this week like a breath of fresh air. The bad breath expert, armed with a bad breath measuring device called a halimeter and a bag of onions, is here to tackle the subject of jungle mouth. Mouth rot, dog breath, halitosis is always on the tip of his tongue.

Amongst the helpful hints he gave on dealing with bad breath he had some comments on testing your own bad breath, as most of us don’t have a halimeter around most of the time.

…he recommends the “wrist lick.” You lick the back of your hand, let it dry, then smell. “If you have bad breath, the sulfur compounds will be present,” said the breathologist. “However, you can get used to your own ‘ground zero’ breath smell so that it becomes difficult to compare.”

Well, the market for products that fight bad breath is fierce, and amongst those competitors are the candy manufacturers. Hershey is having a good time gaining ground in the market where Wrigley’s is leaving off. Of course we all know that candy is not amongst bad breath remedies, don’t we.

Mints are becoming more important to Wrigley as gum sales slow. Wrigley declared 2004 “the year of the mint” in a memo to employees, and later that year agreed to buy Altoids in Mr. Wrigley’s first major deal. It now represents the critical first test of his plan to boost growth through acquisitions. Shareholders want proof the 42-year-old CEO knew what he was doing when he paid full price for a declining product line.

Well, for those looking for slightly more conventional, non-medical bad breath remedies, this might help with dealing with bad breath.

In a small study, Japanese researchers have found that eating traditional, sugarless yogurt reduces the malodorous compounds that cause bad breath. It also cuts down on plaque and gingivitis, they discovered.

It was yogurt effect in other areas that led to the hypothesis that it could be a cure for bad breath.

Lead author Kenichi Hojo and colleagues from Tsurumi University in Yokohama, Japan, decided to investigate yogurt because of its effects in preventing gastrointestinal problems and research indicating that regular yogurt consumption reduces the risk of dental decay.
