Cure Your Bad Breath

February 1st, 2008

A whole host of different things can cause bad breath. Sometimes it’s a medical condition, sometimes it’s an oral care routine that isn’t regular or adequate enough to take care of things, and sometimes it’s just an aftershock from a garlic or onion filled meal.

How Do You Get Bad Breath?

In short, volatile sulfur compounds are the main source of the foul smells in your mouth. Anaerobic bacteria that help your body to begin digesting live and multiply in oxygen deprived regions of your mouth. The first step to fresher breath is to make sure that you brush you teeth after every meal, floss to make sure no little bits of food are left between your teeth and then rinse it all with mouthwash.

Any food that is left between your teeth is a potential breading spot for these bacteria to grow, it’s isolated from oxygen and there is food for the bacteria to eat. Meat is bacteria’s favorite meal, the proteins are the very stuff they live on, so vegetarians usually have less to worry about.

Good, Clean Teeth and Gums Helps Cure Bad Breath

The bacteria that are responsible for your bad breath live on your tongue, around the sides of your mouth and between your teeth. If these bacteria are not reduced, or if you allow your mouth to remain uncleaned for an extended period of time they can contribute to gum problems as they thrive around the area where your teeth meet your gums. This area is best cleaned by using floss. Making sure so get into those areas between your teeth and the spots where your gums and teeth overlap.

All these methods attempt to cure bad breath by reducing the amount of bacteria, if you cut off their food supply and enrich their environment with oxygen it will be hard for any significant amount of bacteria to form. It cannot be stressed enough that making sure your mouth is free from bits of food and keeping your mouth clean is for your daily routine.

A dentist should always be your first council when you look into these matters. Your dentist will be able to put you in the right direction to cure bad breath by giving your teeth a good clean, and identifying any cavities or other problems. Discuss with them how to best keep your mouth in tip-top shape and avoid really stinky breath.
