Finding The Ultimate Bad Breath Cure

February 22nd, 2008

When starting to look for the right bad breath cure, you will need to examine your daily habits, check up on your health and make sure you are doing things correctly. Chronic bad breath, which can best be described as permanent bad breath, where your breath has an unpleasant odor all the time, affects around a quarter of the people in the US.

The causes are not always certain in every case, but it is safe to say that there are some very common causes, of which a great deal can be dealt with without medication. Smoking, dentures, bad choice of food and dry mouth are some of the culprits.

Oral Bacteria

At the heart of almost all bad breath are the oral bacteria. These bacteria live in your mouth and naturally help to break down food before it gets to your stomach. When there are too many then the smell starts to get quite unbearable. The favorite breeding grounds for these bacteria include the back of your tongue and in those hard to reach spots which are often missed while brushing.

Bad Breath From Food

Garlic and onions give you short term bad breath. In these cases, a breath mint or peppermint will help to mask the odor. Bear in mind though how you actually get the bad breath. Most people think it comes from your stomach, but in fact the stinky foods are absorbed into your bloodstream, your blood circulates around your lungs and then the smell is dispelled through your breath. This is also why the smell can linger long after you have finished the meal.

Bad Breath From Smoking

Smoke smells, so it makes your breath smell. But besides this obvious cause of bad breath, the smoke actually dries the mouth, making your mouth a better breeding grounds for those bacteria we mentioned earlier, further contributing to the bad odor.

Bad Breath From Dentures

Dentures need a lot of attention to stay clean. Just because they are not real teeth doesn’t mean they don’t need to be treated like real teeth. Food particles that become stuck can contribute to bad breath in the same way as food between your original teeth caused bad breath. Keep them clean, very clean.

Bad Breath From Dry Mouth

Anything that dries out your mouth will make it more welcoming for bad breath. Bacteria are anaerobic, meaning that they need to live in an oxygen free environment. Saliva is the main source of oxygen into your mouth and when your mouth is dry, there is not enough to wash away little bits of food and excess bacteria. Six to eight cups is what is recommended, but more is never a bad thing, just don’t glug it all down at once.

Want to find a bad breath cure? Just try what we’ve mentioned above and see what a difference it makes to the general state of your mouth. The difference should make you feel fantastic.
